Thankfully, I kept on, because the book does quickly get better. ![]() DuBois devoted so much page time to it and presented it in such a convoluted way that I almost stopped reading. ![]() Autumn's hang-up (she was afraid that men she dated wouldn't respect her if they knew she was submissive) was neither that complicated nor that unusual, but Ms. That said, the beginning was very talky and enormously repetitive ("I'm broken"/"You're not broken" occurred three times in about as many pages). In fact, the strongest scenes here were not BDSM, but, rather, the role play they engage in at the bar and her apartment. The MC has a deeper personal connection and talk more than many of the other couples thus, some scenes take place outside the club - another welcome change since few entries do this. Unlike some of the previous couples, Autumn and Daniel are complete strangers, yet their similar senses of humor, teasing banter, kink compatibility (he's a sadist she's enough of a masochist), and highly complex attitudes towards BDSM mean that they click pretty immediately (in fact, this is more "insta" insta-love than we've seen anywhere else).Īutumn and Daniel are very likable, and I particularly appreciated their ability to have fun even during very intense moments. Here "N" means lots of nipple-play, as well as name-change (which I didn't realize was even a thing, much less a kink). Because each novella features different characters, relationship dynamics, and kinks, some will appeal more to individual readers based on personal preference than others. (I say "assume" because I'm not entirely sure what kinks begin with "Z," but we'll see.) The series' central conceit offers us a dom and sub paired for kink scenes that begin with the letter the club assigns them. This is the fourteenth in what I assume will be twenty-six entries in a series set in Las Palmas Oscuras, one of those fantasy BDSM clubs popular in this genre.
